Tracey and I have a lengthy discussion on abortion. Despite both being pro choice, there is still quite a lot of gray area that is very interesting to discuss. Then of course, there’s always Richard Dawkins to spice things up. Is it ethical to abort a fetus that has a high chance of Down’s Syndrome?

An interesting podcast. I don’t often have the opportunity to hear a man speak on the subject.
Kate Sirls has a very interesting position/argument for the pro-choice. I’ve never heard this argument from anyone else. It appears to be based on laws regarding autonomy of body and medical tissue donations.
Here is a link to her debating with a preacher on the topic.
http://login.dogmadebate.com/podcast/7-atheist-v-preacher-on-abortion/ It starts around 29 minutes in. This is a brief debate, but I think it outlines her position.
Thanks for the episode. 🙂
I found it strange that this episode focused so much on abortion of intended pregnancies, when in reality this makes up less than 5% of all abortions. I think this is what makes the alien analogy valid. Nearly half of pregnancies in the US are unintended, and about 40% of those are aborted, making up almost all abortions. Saying the alien analogy would be more valid if the aliens asked first is pretty similar to the idea that having sex means you’re willing to be pregnant.
That’s a great point Danielle. I’ll think on that and talk about it soon. Thanks for commenting!
