AS97: Holidays; ReThink Prize Results

The ReThink prize results are in and they are very interesting.

Winners

Did they accomplish what they set out to do though? I have some thoughts. Also, general holiday stuff. And this: http://www.ijreview.com/2014/12/223008-smartest-guy-universe-tm-neil-de-grasse-tyson-trolls-christians-christmas/

  1. I agree with you about the 10 commandments. And as far as Tyson goes he’s never struck me as exceptionally bright. I’m pretty bright myself, and generally can gauge people’s intelligence fairly well. At the risk of being accused of being a racist I think part of the Neil deGrasse Tyson is the smartest person in the world meme is fueled by the fact he’s black. Sciency types tend to be liberals, and calling Tyson the smartest person in the world acts as sort of an in your face to right wing racists.
The smartest person in the world may in fact be black, but Tyson isn’t it.

  2. Hi Mike,
Your not racist for calling Tyson that. Intelligence is pretty subjective. Judging from his work, Tyson, has skills in communication and science but that is really about all we can infer from that. My intelligence is average by the way 😉

  3. Actually I do use the episode number to ensure that I didn’t miss an episode since iTunes was created and maintained by crack addicts and it often skips episodes or redownloads previously listened to episodes. Since I listen to dozens of podcasts a week and I have a pretty crazy work schedule, it is the best way to track episodes.
