AS216: The End, with Phil Torres, part 2

This week I have an incredibly interesting guest by the name of Phil Torres. Phil just wrote a book called The End: What Science and Religion Tell Us about the Apocalypse. We’ve got a really cool 2 part discussion for you. In today’s part, we discuss some other issues like foreign policy, the Middle East, and more! If you’d like to check out the book, which I highly recommend, click here.

If you’d like to find out more about Phil Torres’s work, his website is here.

  1. Actually, Shia and Sunni lived side-by-side under Saddam Hussein simply because he would not tolerate unrest on either side. Supposedly, the Shia majority felt put-upon by the Sunni minority and the Sunni-dominated Baath Party the whole time, but revolt was out of the question under Saddam’s iron fist.

Muslims and Christians lived side-by-side and even intermarried in the Baltic states as long as the Soviet Union ruled the region with an iron hand. As soon as the USSR was gone the whole region descended into anarchy and genocide.

It seems some folks just need a very robust Nanny State, without which they would rather die than behave. Explain that. I can’t.
